NOOSA LONG WEEKEND FESTIVAL
14-26 JULY 2015
Wow! What a fabulous 2015 festival it has been.
13 incredible days and nights, presenting the best of the best in terms of artists, performers, authors, visual arts, film food and fun! We at NLWF headquarters are ecstatic on how well our 2015 festival has been received.
I personally met with many festival attendees over the 13 days and nights (many of whom were visitors from interstate and or New Zealand), and the overwhelming message was that ‘everyone had such a great festival experience’. Our visiting artists also echoed their ‘love’ of NLWF and their wish to return again soon!
On many fronts, I have no hesitation in saying this has been our most successful Festival ever and there are a number of wonderful facts to be proudly shared.
This year we had the best box office results: 20 sold out performances, a further 6 performances with over 90% of all tickets sold, a 23% increase in box office tickets sold over budget and a 16% increase over budget in total box office sales, representing a 40% increase on 2014 box office results.
This was due in no small way to a number of Festival firsts. Starting with the fantastic coup of bringing Opera Australia to Noosa and the Sunshine Coast for the first time ever, the program featured three world premieres - Queensland Ballet’s performance of Eye Spy, Catherine Alcorn’s production of her new supper club show and Julian Gargiulo’s piano recital developed especially for the Festival and only performed in Noosa before he returned to Europe - plus the Queensland premier of David Williamson’s “Dream Home” featuring a stellar Sydney Cast and a number of other performances being showcased for the first time in the state. We were also very proud to have the opportunity to bring wonderful literature events to town including introducing Noosa to Liane Moriarty whose current book “Big Little Lies” shot to the top of the New York Best Seller List within one week and will be turned into a film starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.
Our sumptuous food events also proved ever popular from Seafood Seduction to Luscious Lamb on Hastings to our Blue Ribbon degustation dinner at Ricky’s in association with Amadio Wines.
On behalf of the Noosa Long Weekend Festival family, we sincerely thank our amazing line up of artists and special guests, our valued festival sponsors, patrons, friends and volunteers, our fabulous Festival Ambassador 2015, Catherine Alcorn, together with special thanks to you our festival audiences for supporting this wonderful annual community arts and cultural festival.
We look forward to presenting our NLWF 2016
from Friday 15th - Sunday 24th July 2016.
