The Queensland National Ballet Company and SCADA
An evening of contemporary dance
The Noosa Longweekend in association with SCADA and the Queensland National Ballet Company present an Evening of ‘Original’ Contemporary Dance in three movements: “Yidaki” by the Queensland National Ballet Company and “Unique” and “The Tyranny of Distance” by the Sunshine Coast Academy of Dance Arts.
“Yidaki”
The Queensland National Ballet Company and students from the
Queensland National Ballet present ’Yidaki’. This contemporary
ballet piece, inspired by aboriginal art and nature’s elements –
wind, rain, water, fire, earth, combines Martyn Fleming’s unique
choreography with ancient sounds of the didgeridoo.
“Unique”
The talented dancers of SCADA present an exploration into
the idea of what it means to be ‘unique’, to be different - an
individual. At times this brings about the heaviness of loneliness
and isolation, lack of understanding, fear and doubt. But to
come through means to have the inner strength to be what and
who you are without apology or regret.
“The Tyranny of Distance”
This original dance piece explores how a relationship transpires
between friends both male and female with the advent of new
forms of communication in our society (facebook, myspace etc),
and how this technology affects how we interact with others.
Choreographed by Kym Stevens and Melissa Lanham.
