ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival

Experience some of the best new dance films and videos made around the world – exploring diverse dance forms from the popular through to the cutting edge experimental, including works by today’s greatest choreographers. The 5th biennial ReelDance Festival travels to Noosa for the first time with an innovative program focused on dance and movement in everyday life with films including ballroom dancing, mambo, hip-hop and burlesque – dance films for every age group and taste.  Screening sessions include:
Contemporary Dance on Screen (15+): Three films representing the best of international contemporary dance. Thierry De Mey and William Forsythe’s One Flat Thing. The creative life of Pina Bausch and the 20th anniversary celebration of Les Ballets C De La B. 125 mins.

KidsReels (G): Enchanting, international cinema for 3-12 year olds, screening children dancing in their different cultural settings. Young audiences will be encouraged to join in live dancing activities. 60 mins

The ReelDance Awards Finalists (15+): An exciting showcase of the dancefilm finalists in the 2008 ReelDance Awards. See all 10 of the best new short films by Australia and New Zealand dance & film-makers. 110 mins.

Global Shorts #3 – The Art of Moving (15+): 15 short films where editing techniques, projection, choreographed cameras and unlikely subjects combine to recreate reality. 60 mins.

Global Shorts #1 -This Dancing Life (15+):  A sharp sequence of short, international films that find dance in everyday situations in remarkable settings. 60 mins.

Dance Documentaries (15+):  Two revealing films: From Germany Josephine Baker: Black Diva in a White Man’s World and USA’s From Mambo to Hip Hop: A south Bronx Tale.

REELmad 24 Hour Film Competition

What started out as a home-grown event supporting Youth Suicide Prevention has grown into an iconic annual ‘must do’ Noosa Longweekend event. One of this year’s judges and MC is comedian/actor Michael Veitch of The D-Generation and Fast Forward; now host of the ABC Sunday Arts Program.

Workshops & Panel: Film industry professionals give tips and tricks on how to turn your ideas into films. Ideal for those entering the ReelMad 24 hour film competition.

Registration: Make a film in 24 mad hours. Each team gets a kit with a secret list. Five things from the list must be included in the film. Make your film Friday, submit it Saturday and watch the finalists Sunday. Pick up your kit at The J. Til 6.00pm

Final Film Screenings: See the top film picks of the REELmad competition and cheer the 2008 winners. Celebrate the end of the madness and end of The Noosa Longweekend.
