The Idea of North

A cappella masters return

A cappella masters return Back again after a triumphant first appearance at last year’s Noosa Longweekend, The Idea of North is a group now firmly established as a world class ensemble.

They are undisputed masters of a musical style that continues to enthrall audiences wherever they perform - in Australia and around the world. Described variously as simply an ‘a cappella quartet’, a ‘jazz vocal quartet’ or by James Morrison as ‘the best contemporary vocal quartet in Australia’. The Idea of North has established a national and international reputation that now sees them travelling widely and often throughout Australia, the USA, Europe and Asia for concert performances, festivals, corporate functions, workshops and master classes.

Official recognition of that ‘world class’ tag came in 2003 when they won The Harmony Sweepstakes – the largest international small vocal group competition in the world. The Idea of North was the first non-US group to win this prestigious award in its 22 year history. They have also won several CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording) Awards (USA) over recent years.

Combining a hectic annual Australian touring schedule, they also travel overseas 4-6 times every year to countries including the USA, Europe, and (closer to home) to Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The Idea of North have six high selling CD’s, one live in-concert DVD and multiple awards both in Australia and overseas.
