James Morrison

Classical, Opera, Gypsy and Jazz with James Morrison and Friends

Australia’s favourite jazz performer takes time out from his international exploits to add his magic to The Noosa Longweekend.

A remarkably talented musician genuinely adept at any instrument, James Morrison’s wellspring of ability is so vast he’s been able to lead simultaneous careers, here and internationally.

In America he’s been invited to work with some of the biggest names in the business, including Lalo Schiffrin’s orchestral tribute to jazz legend Bix Beiderbecke, and a trumpet summit with Wynton Marsalis and Arturo Sandoval. In Europe he has performed with the London Symphony and the respective local symphonies in Geneva, Prague, Brussels, Moscow as well as every Capital City Symphony orchestra in Australia and New Zealand.

James will be accompanied by the extraordinary vocalist Tina Harris and virtuoso musicians Pat Marchisella on double bass and jazz bass, concert pianist Ambre Hammond, concert harp player Ingrid Bauer and jazz violinist Ian Cooper.

Originally trained in both acting and music, Tina Harris’ ability and love of the stage has seen her perform such diverse, highlevel pieces as the Brahms requiem and Synfonia Antartica for Cantillation Choir with The Sydney Symphony as well as appearing as a solist for the 2007 Bestest Charity Dinner. She even performed as back up vocalist in the recent Michael Buble Tour 2008. This Masters of Performance (Opera) graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, who also holds a Diploma of Opera also from the Sydney Conservatorium and a Bachelor of Creative Arts from Wollongong University, adds yet another “wow” factor to Morrison’s show.

Pat Marchisella studied with Michael Morgan (Former Principal Double Bass: New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra) at the Queensland Conservatorium, where he was the university’s first ever double bass student to graduate with a Master of Music Studies degree. He was been performing with the Queensland Orchestra since 2001. Ambre Hammond’s performance at age 17 of the treacherously difficult Rachmaninoff Concerto 3 made famous by David Helfgott in the movie “Shine” was recorded live and released onto CD prompting the Rachmaninoff Society of the USA to claim it as one of the finest ever recordings of the piece.

Ingrid Bauer has played in many orchestras, including the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Orchestra, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. She has also been principal harp in the New Zealand National Youth Orchestra since 2002.

Ian Cooper is widely regarded as Australia’s most exciting new Jazz Violinist. His bands are regular attractions at many Jazz festivals and concert venues throughout Australia, Europe, Japan and New Zealand. Together, these formidable talents will inspire and delight you with an unforgettable night of supreme musicality.
