Sam Culter
Life in the psychedelic circus
Sam Cutler has lived a life most rock music fans could only dream of. He was hanging out with two of the biggest bands in rock history - the Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead as their tour manager in the glory days of rock ‘n’ roll.
Along the way he came into intimate contact with the heavyweights of the psychedelic era, among them Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton.
Then there was Altamont - a speedway in California, a free concert with the Stones and other bands in 1969 which descended into an orgy of bad drugs, mindless violence and a death. Sam Cutler was a first hand witness.
To finally set the record straight, Cutler takes on what really happened at Altamont in his newly released book You Can’t Always Get What You Want: My Life with the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and Other Wonderful Reprobates.
Says it all really. Still involved with the music business, Cutler now lives in Brisbane. In conversation with documentary maker and TV presenter Anthony Griffis - Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Sam Cutler who was part of a prime slice of rock history.
